Business Intelligence Lead

The BI Lead directs the BI team and plays a central role in creating the Business Intelligence (BI) strategy. This person ensures the BI architecture is aligned with the enterprise architecture and the data warehouse solution architecture. This person ensures that tools, standards, techniques and BI processes are compatible and appropriate for the BI requirements. The BI Lead provides direct technical leadership to the BI team for the design, code, test, document and deployment of the information delivery solution that supports business intelligence needs and implements the business intelligence solution. The BI Lead will set day to day developer goals and follow up to ensure completeness and quality of the BI development and business user satisfaction. The BI Lead will continuously interact with other project team leaders, with technical and business leaders, and with users to clarify requirements, identify and resolve problems, and ensure that user requirements are met. The BI Lead will provide second-tier on-call support for Cognos issues, be responsible for on call duties as needed, and must be available 24/7 by cell phone for team support of critical issues.


II. Primary Responsibilities:

A. * Develops and maintains BI Strategy including strategic objectives, business requirements, Hardware and Software requirements, Modeling Solutions, financial and resource forecasting. Strategies developed along with other key stakeholders.
B. * Provide expert technical leadership using BI tools (ex. Cognos) to analyze, design, build, test, and implement information delivery to business users.
C. * Team with technical and business leadership, business users and subject matter experts to ensure the information delivery technical solution meets business requirements.
D. * Communicate with project leaders, consultants, and team members, along with ability to multi-task to skillfully resolve design problems and code defects in BI delivery.
E. * Use professional knowledge and experience in BI tools (ex. Cognos) and applications to create, design, and implement superior technical solutions to meet BI requirements.
F. * Assist with project management activities including contributing to the creation and maintenance of the business intelligence portion of the project plan.
G. * Prepare weekly team status reports along with issues, resolutions and action items, and discuss at weekly project management meetings.
H. * Support the growth and continuously mature the Business Intelligence Competency Center capabilities both within and with our external constituents

Bachelor*s degree in an Information Management or Information Technology discipline or equivalent work experience required
Certification in Cognos tools required.


A. Demonstrated understanding of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence (BI) concepts including aligning BI strategy with business requirements.
B. Demonstrated superior technical skills with Cognos tools: Query Studio, Reporting and Dashboarding, Analysis Studio, Scorecarding, Event Management, and COGNOS GO!
C. Demonstrated experience migrating information delivery from Cognos ReportNet to Cognos 8.
D. Demonstrated skills with SQL and/or PL/SQL required.
E. Strong record of teaming with business personnel to ensure BI products and services meet user needs required.
F. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work among multiple tasks and projects
G. Excellent communication skills


Experience

Minimum five (5) years BI Lead/Architect experience, in the health care payer field with a minimum of three (3) years in a lead/management role required.

A minimum of five (5) years technical developer experience with business intelligence tools (e.g. Cognos, Business Objects, SAS, etc.) in a data warehouse environment required.

Experience facilitating joint application development (JAD) sessions

HMO or health related industry experience preferred
