SUMMARY
Responsible for systems engineering efforts associated with software product development. This includes generating system-level specifications and leading the effort to evaluate and adopt new technologies. Systems Engineers (SE) work with Product Line Management to understand marketing needs and translate them into a system specification. The system specification forms the foundation for all subsequent software/hardware designs, technical publications, test and project planning. Assignments are of a complex or diverse nature and require advanced technical knowledge, including the use of new technologies, techniques, and methodologies. Project assignments often have a large potential impact on the success of the organization.
The position will require a focus on development of software applications, primarily but not exclusively CTI based. The successful candidate will have a detailed understanding of 9-1-1 and PSTN networking or show the ability to learn quickly.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
* BSCS or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Ability to understand decompose market requirements into technical requirements
* Broad understanding of Microsoft server and workstation operating systems.
* Experience developing diagrams and models based on UML.
* Experience defining functional requirements using use cases.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment, as well as independently.
* Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
* Ability to travel occasionally.
The successful candidate will demonstrate first and foremost the ability to design, at the systems level, Windows based software applications. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is highly desired:
COMPUTER TELEPHONY
* Experience designing PC based systems that use CTI (TAPI, JTAPI, etc.).
* Experience designing systems that interface with and/or programmatically control a telephone switch, preferably a Nortel Communications Server (CS), Nortel Business Communication Manager (BCM), and/or Avaya Communications Manager (CM).
VoIP
* Experience designing PC based systems that use VoIP in a LAN and/or WAN network environment
* Good working knowledge of the SIP protocol with exposure to IETF processes an asset
* Ability to design and troubleshoot a high-availability VoIP deployment
.NET
* Experience designing systems that use .NET technologies such as the .NET Framework, ASP.NET, and .NET Remoting.
* Experience designing systems that use Web Services, SOAP, XML, and UDDI.
DATABASE
* Experience with BI / Decision Support System design
* Experience designing, implementing and maintaining high performance databases with the current release of Microsoft SQL Server.
* Knowledge of data warehousing, datamarts, OLAP
* Experience with report and query tools and data presentation
GIS
* Experience in designing GIS applications
* Ability to integrate GIS concepts with Business Intelligence / Decision Support Systems
* Good working knowledge of databases
