Summary:

Provides strategic leadership for new IP data product evaluation. Data network design architect and engineer. Provides tier 4 support to the Network Operations organization for all IP data issues. Responsible for the IP addressing architecture for the SureWest data network.

Essential Functions

Provides tier 4 support for the data network to enusre proper funtioning; helps troubleshoots and resolve network problems, failures, and outages.

Main ARIN contact for all SureWest sbsidiaries. Leader and architect of IP addressing plan for all of SureWest.

Trials and tests new equipment before it is introduced into the network.

Evaluates test equipment.

Evaluates multiple software/hardware configurations to decide the best combination of price and performance. Rates and recommends products after trial is complete.

Provides OSS integration support of existing and new network components.

Maintains strategic relationships with vendors and their technical support personnel; works with vendors to isolate and fix bugs in networking equipment.

Determines need and conducts evaluations of network administration tools and platforms.

Has a lead role with respect to financial responsibility through researching, evaluating and recommending systems/network hardware and software.

Travels to attend local and out-of-town seminars, conferences and/or training classes.

Reports to work on time and maintains a satisfactory attendance record. Must maintain flexible work hours and participate in after hours call outs.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Technical training or knowledge: Demonstrated working knowledge of: OSPF, BGP, PIM, IGMP, TCP/IP, UDP, ETHERNET, MPLS, VoIP, UNIX, L2 THROUGH L4 SECURITY PRINCIPLES, ATM, SNMP, Net Management tools.

License/Certification: Valid California Driver*s License. Desired CCIE, CCNP, CCNA.

Education and work experience: Eight to 10 years of related field network engineering experience, combination of technical training and work experience in network design, installation and operations in ISP/Data internetworking industry.

Physical Demands: Physical demands are consistent with the installation and maintenance of computer and network equipment and facilities. Most of the day is spent sitting at a desk, working with computers, printers, files, and standard office equipment. Movement is required in the use of office equipment, supply locations, files, and other work locations and meeting rooms. Moderate physical activity is required in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment. Requires travel to remote sites for test and turn-up of equipment.
