Job Description
This position is a temporary contract estimated at 3 months plus duration. OVERALL JOB PURPOSE Responsible for managing local area and/or wide area networks (LAN/WAN). Includes network security, installation and administration of applications, software upgrades, monitoring daily activity, and providing routine back ups. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Design, install, configure and maintain configuration management and control of the Local Area Network (LAN), network infrastructure composed on numerous complex software and hardware components such as hubs, routers, switches and network management systems. Install, configure and administer network firewall, remote access server and maintain a reliable connection to internet service providers (ISPs). Insure the network is functioning at a high-availability (99.999% up time) level by coordinating the functions of the CNC Administrator, Telecommunications Analyst, Network Administrator and Web Developer. Insure network and infrastructure changes are made with minimal interruption of service to home office and remote users of the systems. Perform network setup, maintenance and administration activities including building network servers, racks and related peripheral equipment, upgrade hardware and software, monitor and tune network. Conduct the evaluation, design, and development of data networking and telecommunications systems. Will conduct analysis of network characteristics (e.g., traffic, connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes, and throughput), troubleshoot problems and recommend procurement, removals, and modifications to network and system components on Cisco base networks. Conduct the evaluation, design, and development of data networking and telecommunications systems Configure, operate and maintain enterprise network management systems Develop and submit written technical documentation (i.e., configuration management documentation, set-up instruction, technical installations guides, and architectural diagrams among others). Perform network design, planning and implementation activities. Establish and manage network security. Set up and execute data backup and restores. Troubleshoot network and application related issues. Establish methods for remote connectivity. Follow IS Departments security procedures. Work on special projects as assigned. Job Requirements MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Bachelors degree in business/computer science or related field or equivalent experience. Minimum 7 years of hands-on networking/applications integration experience in multi-platform TCP/IP networking environment is required. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification preferred. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification preferred Experience with Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 server, Windows 2000/XP workstation, Windows Server 2003 setup, design, administration and maintenance tasks are required. Experience with Microsoft Exchange 2003 Messaging Systems is required. Experience in IT Security, Network Perimeter Security and Encryption Technologies Experience with troubleshooting tools such as Cisco Works Experience designing and architecting local and wide area networks Hands-on experience with network communications and other hardware including: Microsoft Windows Server Platforms, Firewall Systems, ISA/DNS/Proxy Servers, AS/400 (iSeries), Category 5/6 cabling, routers, Wireless Access Points, Switches and Printers. Excellent verbal/written communication and customer service skills. Strong customer focus Self motivated and enthusiastic Proactive, resourceful and independent.
