Life Technologies is an industry leader in genetic analysis systems, and is an integral part of today's genetic research, drug discovery, medical diagnostics, and forensic applications. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Genetic Analyzer Software Development Team. They will maintain current and develop new signal processing and other algorithms for both sequencing and fragment analysis supporting the company's Genetic Analyzer systems. The position involves analyzing large amounts of data, understanding and modeling instrumentation effects, chemistry and molecular biology reactions. Algorithms for filtering, pattern classification, feature extraction and quantification will be required. The developer will be responsible for the design and development of the algorithms, testing and implementation, as well as documentation and communication of the algorithms.

Formal Education: PhD. or MS. in physics, mathematics, computer science, or electrical engineering. Training in statistics, computational mathematics, modeling, signal processing, pattern classification and image analysis. Training in software design, OOP and design patterns. Training or education in bio informatics and molecular biology is a plus. Experience: 5+ years of numerical algorithm development. 3+ years of commercial software development. 2+ years of image analysis or computer vision. Experience in molecular biology domain (sequencing) is a plus. Programming Skills: 3+ years in Java 2+ years in Matlab/Mathmatica 2+ years in C/C++ Familiar with scripting languages, e.g. Python, Perl Familiar with commercial software production practices Familiar with software production tools (e.g. an IDE, source control, document tracking) General Skills: Ability to work independently and in teams. Must be able to communicate with scientists, engineers and software developers. Must be able to produce documentation, write papers and present scientific results at meetings and conferences.
