The Ideal Candidate will have 7+ to 10 years of experience and a Bachelor's Degree.
Position Summary:
Provides in-depth knowledge and technical expertise in the areas of design, installation, maintenance and support of network infrastructure following established methodologies and processes. This position is responsible for evaluating new technologies by understanding how business
objectives are met via identified technology solutions. The incumbent is responsible for stimulating customer interest in technology solutions providing business value proposition and performing all aspects of technical and financial planning as it relates to networking portion of solution
implementation. The incumbent is recognized by peers as an authority for knowledge and technical expertise in networking technologies as well as several other areas of technology. This position troubleshoots and resolves highly complex network infrastructure problems and provides resolution to
problems associated with several other technology areas. This position provides technical consultation and guidance to the Information Technology and Customer communities. Collaborates with diverse business areas in technical disciplines and is responsible for analyzing business
requirements, determining prerequisites, performing cost-benefit analysis, and assisting in formulation technology solutions to meet such requirements. The incumbent is responsible for preparation of Request for Proposal documents, review of vendor responses, and participates in negotiation and management of vendor contracts and services. Working as a member of a team on various projects or as project engineer on large and highly complex cross technology projects involving cross-functional resources, the incumbent is responsible for providing solutions to business problems. Responsible for providing tier 3 support of the corporate Layer 3 VPN network, wireless infrastructure, VLAN's and firewalls.
Responsibilities:
General Responsibilities:
-Responsible for collaborating with diverse business areas in network related disciplines and stimulating customer interest in technology solutions providing business value proposition;
-Responsible for analyzing business requirements, determining prerequisites, performing cost-benefit analysis, and assisting in formulation of technology solutions to meet such requirements;
-Responsible for all aspects of technical and financial planning as it relates to solution implementation;
-Responsible for evaluating new networking technologies and understanding how business objectives and technology solutions form an overall information technology architecture and/or solution;
-Defines, organizes and executes project deliverables and tasks within allocated time and resource. As a project engineer participates in large and highly complex cross technology projects involving many cross-functional resources;
-Responsible for impact analysis, planning, communication and execution of changes with significant impact to the environment; -Responsible for capacity planning by employing a statistical trend analysis model(s), analyzing present and future requirements;
-Responsible for developing business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and providing assistance in executing test plans;
-Responsible for preparation of Request for Proposal (RFP) documents and review of vendor responses. Assists in negotiation and management of vendor contracts and services;
-Responsible for developing and maintaining Technical Specification and/or Standard Operating Procedures documents.
Specialty Area Responsibilities:
-Responsible for design, installation/configuration of network infrastructure including communication protocols, access method technologies, wireless infrastructure and associated hardware and software;
-Responsible for design, installation/configuration of internet infrastructure and associated firewall hardware and software;
-Responsible for design, installation/configuration of voice communication infrastructure and associated hardware and software; -Provide tier 3 support of the corporate Layer 3 VPN network, wireless infrastructure, VLAN's and firewalls. Perform post-mortems on escalated network incidents and issues, and make written recommendations for technical and policy improvements;
-Perform root cause analysis by systematically reducing problems to their basic components. Troubleshoot and resolve highly complex network related problems. Provide resolution to problems associated with several technology areas;
-Work with IP Infrastructure and Provisioning groups to ensure that necessary equipment and capacity are ordered and installed in time to meet demand. Once new equipment has been installed, assist in performing all necessary configurations to activate it in the network;
-Responsible for installation, configuration, customization of network monitoring/management tool. Assist in proactive monitoring and management of network components and services according to the established service level agreement (SLA);
-Responsible for installation, configuration and utilizes network diagnostics tools to troubleshoot network related problems;
-The individual must comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and all internal controls processes;
-The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity;
-Miscellaneous other duties and responsibilities as may be requested or required by management.
Requirements:
-Must have Network Design Experience.
-Must be able to effectively communicate and document complex technical issues with both technical and non-technical personnel; -Candidate must have bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
-Candidate must have 8 or more years hands on experience with Juniper and Cisco network equipment;
-Must have expert knowledge of Layer-3 VPNs, BGP, OSPF, firewall policy, and VLAN management;
-Proficient in WAN Optimization, VoIP and QOS;
-Proficient in Network Monitoring/Management Systems (Nagios, Cacti). Familiarity with HP Open View, CA Spectrum or Tivoli Netcool is desirable;
-Working Knowledge of server and workstation hardware platforms and operating systems;
-Working Knowledge of office automation applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.);
-Familiarity with system, database and application monitoring/management tools is desirable;
-Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs as equipment movement may be necessary;
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required;
-Ability to travel occasionally and to participate in a rotating 7X24 support schedule;
-Night and weekend work for network activity is required.
