Director of Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC)

The North American IPP development business, located in San Francisco, CA, is seeking an experienced EPC Director to lead the EPC group in the implementation of utility PV solar projects throughout North America.
Primary Accountabilities of Position:
Responsible for *hands-on* coordinating and overseeing utility solar PV project implementation activities including design and engineering, estimation, contract negotiations, procurement, and construction management of projects throughout North America. Provides support to business development in evaluating new project opportunities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: * Lead and manage the implementation of GCL*s utility solar PV projects using a combination of external engineering and construction firms as well as internal procurement and engineering resources. * Identifies suitable external engineering and construction companies, manages bid and selection processes, and negotiates contracts with the selected firms. * Coordinates procurement of major component with GCL*s China procurement team. Coordinates and leverages GCL*s internal China-based engineering capability. * Responsible for managing project execution by the selected engineering and construction firms within budget and schedule. * Oversee preparation of monthly internal management reports, including project financial results. * Supports the business development team in evaluating project opportunities, developing preliminary project designs and cost estimation. * Ensure, promote and monitor that all projects comply with GCL*s health, safety and environmental requirements in accordance with applicable law and with corporate quality requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: * Knowledge of effective management approaches, tools and training for power projects * Demonstrated success in vendor/supplier contract negotiations and management * Strong communication skills in written, oral and presentation formats * Ability to develop strong interpersonal networks within the organization * Project management in renewable energy industry * Worked in a *start-up* environment and applies a *hands-on* approach to perform detailed tasks * Leadership qualities
Qualifications Required: * BS degree in engineering or applied sciences. (Master*s degree is preferred) * Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the power industry plus at least 1 year in solar power industries working on project design / construction management * Demonstrated increased responsibility and project success with a solid work history * Significant previous exposure to both small and trial projects.
Unique Physical Requirements: * Position primarily works in an office environment. Use of computer display terminal required. Some bending and lifting may be required.
