Microsoft FAST Search Engineer

Life Technologies is looking for a strong Search Engineer architect to support and continuously improve our technical Microsoft FAST web search implementation. This position will fill an important role within the Life Technologies IT eBusiness team supporting all search activities within different websites.

This is a full time position based in Carlsbad California.

What you*ll be doing:
* Be the application expert for enterprise search solutions
* Focus on ensuring a search experience that is relevant, unique, and compelling
* Monitor Enterprise Search application and provide monthly reporting
* Provide application maintenance operations (preventive and scheduled)
* Provide system backup
* Maintain, optimize, and improve search index
* Provide search performance optimization
* Provide resolution of service faults
* Install patches and hot fixes
* Perform general incremental development/ maintenance task
* Provide Query Language and API support
* Participate in roadmap planning

Skills you need:
* A minimum of 2 to 3+ years experience administering Windows and UNIX/Linux servers
* A minimum of 2 to 3+ years experience working with Java and XML
* A minimum of 2 to 3+ years experience working with relational databases (Oracle and SQL
* Server) and development of SQL and stored procedures
* A minimum of 1 to 2+ years experience working with Python and Perl
* Experience with FAST ESP is highly preferred although a minimum of 2 to 3+ years experience working with one or more other leading search tools (Endeca, Lucene, Google) is also acceptable
* Familiar with trade-offs between searchable content, index size, performance tuning, clustering, failover, and index backup strategies
* Experience working in configuration of the inbound and outbound pipeline of the search engine for both tuning, integration, and customization purposes
* Demonstrated success in developing and tuning search algorithms, particularly for shopping-related searches
* Successful maintenance management of Internet solutions
* Excellent communication skills and a track record of achieving success in a dynamic environment.
* Strong systems debugging and troubleshooting skills
* Ability to automate (script) systems tasks
* BS degree in IT, CS, or a related field
