Strategy  & Market Intelligence Director

GCL Solar Energy, Inc., is a worldwide solar power developer (i.e., IPP) headquartered in San Francisco, CA.  It is a subsidiary of GCL-Poly Ltd, a premier solar photovoltaic (PV) company, the world's largest Poly-silicon/wafer manufacturer, and has a market capitalization of over $5 Billion.  This North American IPP power development business, located in San Francisco, CA, currently has an opening for a Strategy & Marketing Director to develop strategic direction and market research for investments and acquisitions of solar PV projects and companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and provide company guidance on Solar Power Market knowledge worldwide.

  • Develop strategic positions on the Solar Power Generation Markets in the United States, South and Central America, South Africa and other potential growth markets.

  • Support the business development team in analyzing and developing strategies for winning Power Purchase Agreements (PPA’s) and other project off-take arrangements.

  • Provide guidance on markets to conduct solar power generation development activities (i.e., map growth target markets).

  • Develop projections of solar generation capacity in target markets.

  • Conduct studies on the regulatory environment for renewable energy in each state in the U.S. and globally for other potential solar power generation markets,


    • Lead governmental relations,

    • Study and report on the legislative initiatives at national, state and municipal levels.

    • Investigate state level policy initiatives for renewable energy by analyzing the Public Utility Commissions’ positions on renewable mandates, Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS), and other power generations initatives and policies.

    • Provide group leadership and knowledge base on the power trading markets at National, State, ISO’s and RTO’s levels 

    • Conduct competitive market research on power generation industry players and other entities throughout the solar supply chain and present results to senior management.

    • Analyze the cost structures and resultant energy prices of various renewable energy technologies.

    • Direct and/or perform other market research as needed

    • Develop impactful insights that drive strategy and decision making, including leveraging and integrating primary research, multiple studies, secondary sources, and competitive intelligence.

    • Diagnose and interpret business issues, identify knowledge gaps and obtain support from marketing and business partners for effective research and analytic plans.

    • Extend the influence of team's communications and offers throughout the organization. Present strategic insights to business partners and stakeholders that drive business actions.




Qualifications:

  • BA/BS (minimum) in business, economics, marketing

  • Preferred - Master’s Degree in Economics, Business, Marketing

  • 7+ years of experience in strategic planning, marketing research or  governmental affairs

  • Excellent written and presentation skills, including defending strategic and research plans

  • Experience leading internal and vendor teams in executing research and analytic projects, and managing multiple in-process studies simultaneously.

  • Experience in power generation is strongly preferred - Solar or renewable energy experience a plus.
