As part of the SOLiD Bioinformatics team, the candidate will be responsible for
- Designing analysis strategies and validation of bioinformatics algorithms for next-generation sequencing. This may include simulation of data, analysis of existing data, identification of new data from internal or external collaborations, and comparison of results against orthogonal data sets. Skills used will include statistical analysis, programming of validation code, programming to create simulation data sets, understanding of potential biological, chemical, and informatics challenges to obtaining accurate and complete results and designing validation approaches to explore, identify, and reduce artifacts from all sources. Design and run validation analysis experiments to optimize algorithm parameters, and to identify appropriate filtering and pre-processing of data.
- Document the validation performed, and create other project documentation as needed.
- Assist in answering technical/algorithm questions from the global SOLiD user community
- Perform code validation, including exercising all the input parameters, testing boundary conditions, testing on large data sets, testing on more varied input (by species, coverage, enrichment, etc).
- Periodic analysis and reporting on special projects, special data, etc.
- Establishing and following standard operating procedures
- Integrating diverse third party bioinformatics algorithms and the application of statistics, visualization and data mining methods to aid biological interpretation.
This position will work closely with the bioinformatics algorithm and software developers, and also with the software engineers developing the instrument software and the scientists developing the SOLiD platform.
