Job Description

  • Manager, Application and Technology Architecture
  • Parsippany, NJ
The position of Manager, Application & Technology Architecture is a leadership position in the Information Technology Service group primarily responsible for defining and documenting the architecture that provides for the effective, efficient, and scalable deployment of enterprise applications, including the linkage between applications systems and the supporting infrastructure. This focus is the architectural design and application integration architectures, along with enabling technologies including networks, middleware, databases and web.  This position interacts with all levels of Information Technology staff, all levels of the stakeholder community, and any level of management from either group. This position is a hands-on technology leader who will play a key role in envisioning, architecting, and articulating the technology and integration framework for the Wyndham Worldwide Information Technology organization. 

Responsibilities and Duties
 
This individual will lead in the research, evaluation, and provide input to the selection of new technologies and enhancements to existing technologies. In addition, the person will be responsible for identifying, building consensus on, and documenting, technology frameworks including Data Access, Data Integration, Network, Middleware and SOA frameworks. This associate will be required to develop and lead presentations to our development community and spearhead the adoption of new technologies and frameworks where opportunities exist. The role will require extensive interaction with applications, operations, network, security and infrastructure teams to build consensus on architecture, integration and technology roadmaps. The person provides leadership, management and technical expertise to a culturally diverse, technically-oriented staff as well as vendor management and administration, operational management and budget analysis. 

  • Manage the application and technology group, including mentoring/motivation and hiring reviews, overall performance and training. Provide leadership and mentorship within the team through training, personal development, objective setting, and performance reviews.

  • Research, identify and gain consensus on OR recommend maybe? technology products required for solution delivery by participating in the identification and analysis of enterprise business drivers. Derive enterprise business, information, technical and solution architecture requirements; analyzing industry, technology and market trends to determine potential impacts and fit in the enterprise architecture.

  • Lead the development of the overall application, middleware, database and supporting infrastructure technology and integration architecture from a data flow and technology perspective working with the application development, application support , operations and infrastructure teams in defining the target architecture leveraging best practices from existing as well as external best practices

  • Lead creation/evolution of the enterprise architecture team with the focus on reviewing new technologies for a fit in the Corporate Service organization, engineer, bench test, optimize the deployment model, provide appropriate architectural and integration documentation with diagrams for a smooth hand off to operations teams to build the supporting infrastructure.

  • Coordinate the architecture and integration design and documentation activities across all architectural disciplines: Application, Information, Integration and Infrastructure


  • Create and maintain enterprise architecture standards and provide thought leadership and direction for implementing governance to protect those standards by promoting enterprise architecture process, outcomes and results to the organization, including the enterprise's IT and business leaders; this includes assessing (through appropriate metrics) and communicating the achievement and impact of the enterprise architecture, as well as leading development and execution of a communication plan and education.


 

 
Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, System Analysis, Computer Engineering or Business Management and 7 + years of broad business application and infrastructure integration knowledge.

  • 5 + years experience in information technology with experience across application development, data management and/or data transformation (Oracle Ebusiness Suite preferred)

  • 3+ year experience leading/managing an Architecture team

  • 3+ years experience working in a global shared service organization

  • 3+ years experience in both development and support roles.

  • Requires strong analytical ability, strong judgment, and strong interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a matrix environment

  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills, including providing timely guidance and feedback to strengthen specific knowledge / skill areas.

  • Proven problem solving and decision making abilities:  able to direct the analysis and prioritization of complex issues, and execute timely solutions.

  • Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills across IT, senior management, business units and clients.

 
Technical/Professional Knowledge Required:
 
  • At least 7 years of experience leading customer facing processes and organizations within an Information Technology framework organized around operational excellence best practices.

  • At least 5 years of project management and team management experience with a proven track record of managing and coordinating several projects sly.  Demonstrated ability to manage cost, schedule, and performance of IT projects and departments.

  • 5+ years experience in the area of Oracle application support and integration

  • At least 5 years of experience with Unix servers in Oracle environment

  • At least 5 years of relevant experiences in delivering enterprise-wide application systems with multiple iterations of SDLC using RUPP, OOA/OOD and other software engineering approach using integrated SOA/Enterprise Application tool set (Oracle Fusion, BEA Web Logic or IBM Web Sphere)

  • Expert knowledge of high performance distributed n-tier web application architecture with hands-on experiences in J2EE, Application Servers, Enterprise Service Bus, Web Services & SOA

  • Extensive experience and an understanding of firewall ports and transaction flows, architectural redundancy principles.

  • Expert knowledge in Linux, Solaris, and Windows platforms.
