I am sure we have all seen it. The 5000 or so job offerings from IBM posted on about every site known to man updated every day etc..... Even worse is they way IBM posts. Here at Dice the sales category is crammed full of non-sales jobs posted by IBM, making the category pretty much useless. Same across the other popular sites.

I know, just ignore them. Sure wish Dice as well as other sites would offer a way to allow ignoring SPAM from such outfits.

I am tired of dealing with larger corporations with an HR department just finding something to do to justify their jobs when their is no position actually open. Rumor is that IBM has a hiring freeze and their HR is just collecting data for positions for when they can hire.

I do not exactly agree with you. IBM is placing the ad as proof they have made an effort to hire here before they have a mass import of H-1b

I think you are saying that it is just a technicality that they have to go through before they start pulling in cheap labor from overseas? I am not familiar with work visas.

Not sure about proof. They place the ads, thousands of job seekers in the US respond, IBM does nothing with the responses. Proves to me that IBM is a scam. Then again you are probably right and it is just some weak government policy that allows them to get away with such.

At least we both agree that it is SPAM.

IBM, I remember them. They were a big computer company in the US.

Didn't they just annouce last week, they are going to INVEST $6 Billion in India in the next 3 years. I do believe they are. They don't need to import H1-Bs, they're headed there.

One of IBMs largest US facilities is about 8 to 10 miles from my house... They have a large number of jobs posted and have been for months, many of which are marked "entry level" although they are asking for midlevel+ skills and/or education. I know a lot of people, myself included have applied for some of these positions and never so much as gotten an acknowledgement even though we were reasonably solid matches to the job descriptions. I guess you have to be a 110% match to even get a call back.

I personally believe the H1B thesis. IBM will probably hire a lot of people in India, sure, but they won't be closing most of their major US facilities either. So I think they also want to replace a lot of people here in the US with cheaper H1Bs, and by advertising positions and not interviewing anyone they can claim there are no qualified US candidates.

Its not just IBM, I think most of the big companies are doing it.

Two IBM outsource jobs appeared on the boards last week. I applied, interviewed by phone, and got one of them today. I think I had a pretty good chance of getting the other, as well. They both were real jobs, not just resume collecting.

I just finished at a place that is 60% Indian, 20% other and 20% American. Management is more heavily foreign than peons. The default office language is Hindi. The level of competence and intelligence there is better than any of a few dozen American IT shops I've seen. Companies might hire Indians for low price, but keep them for quality.

Cobolman, consider yourself lucky, because the shop I'm is is 90% Indians. There a couple who have been here for 10 years and know their stuff. The rest are 25 year olds, first contract in this country and looking to be trained. They stay a year and leave and a new group comes in. Unfornately my boss has been in this country for 20 years and his English is still as bad as the ones who just arrived. I've worked with some good Indians at other places, but this one takes the cake.

Did you get that job, I know there were a few jobs available but just 2 to 3 weeks ago they were pulled. With this layoff now and more coming don't think you will get any job in outsourcing, they will be going to the cheaper market. We can thank management for that.. as long as they get their top bucks the pee ons can go to ****. I can see a down fall for the BIG Blue.

IBM has no choice, offshore work or loose key opportunities to other multinationals. China and India are where its all going to, in fact most IBM AP management are based in Shanghei now,
Have to blame globalization and shareholder greed. Unfortunately its not the same technology company it used to be, its future is driven by whats happening in Wall St.

Yes. I've been working here for a week. It is a legit job with a F-100 company.

the world does not pay or can not afford what Americans pay. maybe Americans should slow down their purchases to show their displeasure. seems companies are making their profits overseas anyway, the fall of the American Dream...
