Sorry that it didn't work out. I was a LAN Admin at NYU for 7 years. It was a pleasant enough place to work, I liked the 35 hour work week specifically.
As for NYU being picky, I was living in Detroit at the time of my interview and interviewed for my position over the phone. Got the job but this was in 1998. Things were different back then I suppose.
Good luck!

Not a surprise. I had to really curb my going to NYC on interviews because of the cost of going in. I pushed for an initial phone interview. Driving 50 miles away would be cheaper for me.
I'm really sorry it didn't work out and the idiots at the other end knew what your experience was (I assume) BEFORE you went in. I think you were sold a line of garbage. NYU is picky about who they bring in... that, I know. Again, that stuff was probably already in your resume.
Shoot for a phone interview first next time. Get something in writing that tells you where you are going and with whom you'll be interviewing. Tell them you like to be well prepared on an interview. (I did that.) What you'll be doing is ensuring you're going where they say you'll be going...
