Funeral Director for all the unemployed IT workers who eventually starve or freeze to death.

I would advise going with a busines degree. I have one and have found it valuable. It also seems to be a better 'fall back' degree is you decide to get out of IT. Not sure of your age (I'm 39) but many of my friends have undergone complete field changes several times since graduating from college.

Good advice about the business degree. I would add a minor in information systems to the business degree if you do not have a technical degree already.

Very true. My minor is in economics which I got mainly because of the overlap in requirements between my major and the minor itself. I planned pretty well (meaning I got to take little coursework for fun/personal interest) and got out in four years. That was in '92 and now it seems like a business degree takes 4 1/2 to 5 years to complete so you may have the extra time to pick up a minor that does not have the benefit of overlap with your major.

I got my business degree in 1982. I never really used it. Nobody seems to think it's very valuable anymore, can't imagine why. I sometimes toy with the idea of going back for MBA, in fact I already have a few graduate credits, in PM.

If you can get a position with a real bank, not on Wall Street, you might have a better chance to put an MBA to use.

Economics if you're really good at math and are eloquent.
Economics is good for teaching and media.

Tax Accountants are never unemployed.
Tax Accountanting is for the less eloquent or if you're too shy too teach.
