Here is the situation. i got two offers. but signed for one since it came way before the second one. But i liked the second offer i got interms of many things. I would like to avoid the company i signed the first offer for. can it happen without any implication? I have a 6 month experience and graduated in 2008. I have no idea what to do

There are always some consequences.

But it's not that big a deal.

You're not the first person this has happened to, and not the first person to do this. For example, I did something like this, on my second job out of school. I survived! Recruiters see it happen every day.

I take it you have not yet started the first job? Well, in extreme cases, sometimes the right thing to do is - to be honest with them! Just say, yes, thank you, I really was happy about your offer and looking forward blah blah, but seriously, look at this other offer, and maybe in the future, when I'm more experienced, I'll have another chance to finally come work here with you blah blah, ..

A reasonable employer will accept this, but I suppose the odds are only about 50/50 that the HR at the place will be so reasonable, so if they try to beat you up, just try to be polite and hang up as quickly as possible. Unless your situation was VERY unusual, there should be no actual penalties, and nothing they can do "to put it on your permanent record", etc. I suppose they could blackball you at that one company, but one would hope they would not even do that. Of course, *read* any paperwork you have signed.

Just hope the second one really is that much better, and you don't find a reason to jump out of that one.

Which firm is more stable and has the longest track record? Sometimes a higher salary will NOT compensate you for all the political garbage prevalent in many organizations. Remember one toxic coworker can ruin the greatest opportunity and even your mental health. Choose carefully.

Wow idm, you are so right.

Deciding to go back on taking an offer is not a problem. It is worse when somebody starts and then quits after a couple of weeks.

Yes, you can decline the original offer without ANY implication regardless of the terminology in the offer letter
