Applying to the same company

Hi Everyone,
I applied to a company for an entry level QA position. I didn't have any QA experience plus they wanted someone with background on a specific programming language which I didn't have any experience in either. The job posting said they will provide some training. The interview went on for an hour. It's a small company with 15 employees. I was interviewed by my soon to become boss and a guy from technical department who kept on quizzing me the programming language I didn't know and the CEO. I've never heard from them after that.
Now there is another position available in their company. This is more of a project management role which requires background on web development which I have. Now my question is should I apply again? Considering the fact that they have interviewed me for an hour and hired someone else. I think one of the reason they didn't hired me because they wanted someone right away to work which was not possible in my case because I have 2 more months for graduation. Do you think they might consider me if I apply again? Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If it really was entry-level and the firm was really willing to provide training, then it should not have mattered about the lack of QA experience nor the lack of experience and knowledge about the programming language. Did the interviewers not already know you were not available for two (2) months but interviewed you anyway, or did you tell them during the interview?

Do you have any project management experience? Are you available immediately?

Thanks for the response, idm.
Their job post never mentioned about training (I figured out after reading it carefully, Sorry. I was applying for way too many jobs to keep track of it) but during the interview I got the impression that they might train a bit. The funny thing is they didn't even do any phone screening. I applied and 2 hours later they called me for an interview. Then I told them that I wont be able to start right away. They even asked if I was willing to do part time until you can work full time? Which I agreed to.
Despite the fact that I'm still in college I've had exposure to manage a small web development project. Nothing big. I worked for a very small company (3 employees). I've been a team leader of several group projects in college. I'm not available until I graduate. So I guess it's a no go then, right?

Project management requires a fair bit of experience working at different levels and working with different levels. i am not sure if your college experience may be enough for that? do you have any prior experience working in a software development or a business environment?

Seaotter,
Thank you for your response.
Well, I've had experience in managing some projects. I've been involved in client consulting, requirement gathering, creating road map for projects, approaching the project with software development methodologies, diving the work among developers, graphic designers, technical writers and then finally testing the software and deploying it then dealing with customer feedback etc..
This is how I basically approached 4-5 projects. Some were while in college and some while working at a small company.

You should perhaps give it a shot.. i dont think there is much to lose.. i suppose you fit the PM age group (usually 35+) to have a good chance..

35+ lol
I'm 23. I might apply but I see it will go in vain because good chunk of my interview I explain about how I managed my previous project successfully. They would have called me after this position opened up since its a small company and its only been two weeks.
Oh well!

It sounds as though you have covered most of the project management related activities through previous projects. The key will be organizing your resume to reflect the project management experience within the context of those various projects; in other words, you want to present yourself as a project manager rather than as a developer. A hybrid functional and chronological resume is an option to emphasize the project management skills. Oh, there is no reason to think the employer or interviewers will remember your previous application. They only look at the current pool of applicants and rarely go back to the resumes from prior interviews. You should be okay to re-apply to the firm. The only factor against you is availability, but as it is already November and courses finish in early to mid-December I would not let that deter you from applying now.

Passionate, It never hurts to try and SeaOtter's right about the PM age. But, the company's small. Just don't ever put all your eggs in one basket when applying. Keep looking and good luck!
PMs these days (like everything else) typically come in with a very diverse background. It used to be one of the questions on the PMP test and the diverse background in other roles in the SDLC was the winner of the person who made the best PM.
