What an historic milestone in American history - the first mixed-race President of the United States. This will surely pave the way for an African-American President in the future.

You missed the point. This paves the way for all Americans of any race and socio-economic background. Previously, it was a whites-only club, usually rich white folks.

......... last time I looked, Obama wasn't living in a cardboard box in Chicago!!!!! You have to have some $$$$$ to afford a MULTI-million dollar home!!!!! Although I wonder how Chris Dodd got a $900,000 loan from CountryWide on a $155,000\yr salary???

McCain is not a minority (neither a woman nor a non-white). But "you betcha" everybody would have the day off if *his inauguration could draw 2M+ people into a tiny area and heightened security was needed to thwart a bunch of nutjobs wanting to kill him for racist reasons. This is America. We learned from our own history.

I'm wondering why they call him just black. You never hear anyone refer to him as white. Weren't his mom, who was white, and his maternal grandparents, who were both white, the ones who raised him? I think that those that refer to Obama only as black are really doing a disservice to his mom and grandparents.
