I have recently noticed a slew of Ads in the Detroit News from a outfit in Dallas, Tx. They are advertising for a lot of technical positions in the greater Detroit metropolitan area, including software, accounting, analysts, engineers, etc.

These are ads that average about 25 or more lines long - a long ad. They never list their name, but the address is always 700 North Pearl St., Suite 510, Dallas, TX 75201

It is unusual in that they are almost dominating the professional job advertising section in the Detroit News, and Free Press.

Is this outfit advertising in other cities also?

Anyone contacted them, or know who they are?

If you google the address you will see they are spamming all over online and dead tree publications. And the name of the company appears to be consistantly obfuscated. A yahoo maps search for that address shows multiple business matches, none of which I recognize as a headhunting firm, but a few possibilities. It appears to be a rather large and fairly generic office building "Plaza of the Americas/Westin City Center" with retail (probably on the street level) and a bunch of tenants like law firms, dentists, etc.

software janitor, yes, I've tried googling them, as well as looking up the address in yellow pages online, and several reverse address lookup sites, and still can't find out WHO they are.

Whomever they are they sure seem to value their privacy - and this is something that raises my suspicions.

Yeah, their advertising policy leaves a bad smell in the air. I would not do business with companies that work like this.

Don't even go down that road, who knows what's on the other end. I'm assuming the company probably doesn't even live at the address, it's probably just a mailbox. Many times suite is just a another name for PO Box at these private mail drops.

That is possible. Like I said, the building at that address is a very large (two 25+ story towers) office building with numerous retail and office locations. Who knows what all is in there. Could be the space is sublet or a company there is selling mail forwarding or processing services to someone else. It would be interesting if anyone is going to be in downtown Dallas sometime could check it out in person. I'm about 4 or 5 hours away and I don't have any business up towards DFW so I can't really take the time to do it.

I am from Silicon Valley in California, and these ads dominate the San Jose Mercury. There are pages of these and they densely worded and very hard to read. The hiring company is never mentioned.

This is my opinion: I think it 700 N. Pearl , #510 is really a employment law office that handles foreign engineers. In order to stay and work in this country, they must advertise their client's qualification and show that because no non-foreign worker answers the ad, then no American's job is being displaced. This
would explain why they are sensitive about their privacy.

If you look at the ads, you will notice that there is job reference number and a "case" number also. Very unusual. Also, some of the jobs listed are
comparitively low on the pay scale considering the lofty qualifications wanted.
If you do a Google on 700 N. Pearl, Dallas, TX, you will come up with law offices,
although I admit this is not conclusive proof this is just a H-1B law firm.

Mark Ad:

Would a high-tech head hunting firm also deal with minimum wage jobs like the one above? Now I really do think this is a employment law firm
trying to get permits (green cards) to stay in the US for foreign workers.

I searched around, also, after finding a similar ad in the San Francisco Chronicle. At lawyers.com,
I found an employment law firm at the same address on Pearl Street in Dallas at Suite 520. Then I found the following ad in the Greenville, TX, Herald Banner newspaper, which sounds suspiciously NOT from the U.S. Dept. of Labor:

I live in Dallas and there is nothing in that Suite! It is now something of a folklore on this thread as to who these people are. I thought they were a law firm but was wrong.

Definitely weird.

There is a list of 700 results on a specified Google search.

You may apply for these positions as these are foreign labor certifications. Companies generally will try to dis-qualify the applicant, but if the applicant is qualified they hire them for other available positions.

Good luck!

Actually, sounds like a shell company. Maybe a money laundering scheme.

BTW, has anybody seen "The Truth About Log Management" presentation by the SANS Institue?

It is not a shell company. Please do some research, the FAX machine or mail office is located at Suite 510.

Interesting. It does appear that these ads may be placed by the US DOL. But why are they so evasive and deceptive about who and why these ads are being placed? It is almost like they WANT to scare people off so that the employers can hire cheap imported labor.

The burden of proof is for the employer to prove that you are NOT qualified for the position. Hence they try to make the position sound so terrifically specific.

But don't worry DOL usually is careful and asks for specifics on every disqualification. Say if you know COBOL and the job asks for C++, they ask can the person who applied learn C++, etc.
